This step-by-step guide will help you organize your kitchen. Strategically organizing your kitchen storage space will make it easy to prepare meals and organize nightly dinners. These easy steps will help you organize your cabinets.
Your kitchen is one of the most used rooms inside your house. It can make a difference in how your morning starts. Don’t waste time digging through overstuffed drawers and crowded cabinets. You can save time and frustration by rethinking what you have in your cabinets. Here are some tips.
Step 1 – Take everything out of the cabinets
You can take out every sippy cup, ketchup packet, and shelf liner and stack them on a counter or table. This will allow you to see what you have in your kitchen, and perhaps, what you do not need anymore.
Step 2 – Clean out drawers and cupboards
You can use a damp cloth to remove crumbs and dirt from all corners. You can also add some dish soap to any spillages. Use warm water to scrub the gunk off-shelf surfaces. You can also use an all-purpose brush to move the bristles in small circular motions. To prevent any water damage, wipe off all surfaces with a dry, clean cloth.
Step 3 – Throw away anything that is expired or broken
Clear out any expired or damaged appliances, spices or any seasoning bottles bulk that you can find in your cupboards to free up space. You might consider donating any gadgets that you haven’t used in the past two years to a charity.
Step 4 – Store all consumables together
First, reserve one section or cabinet for food. Then, you can organize the space according to daily consumables (nuts and crackers) and cooking needs (baking soda, sugar, flour). A turntable is a great way to make small items such as spices more easily accessible.
Step 5 – Move items that you don’t use very often
Separate your gravy boat and holiday cookie press from other mixers that you use most often. Store them on a shelf in the pantry. Note that you should reserve space in your kitchen cabinets for items you use often.
Step 6 – Label all
Opaque and partially used containers are major sources of common cabinet confusion. Clear containers can be used to store dry food such as nuts and grains. Label each container with the contents and date before replacing them on shelves. Return the items to your cabinets. Place items that you only use rarely at the back, and those that you rely on every day or every week near the front.
Step 7 – Sort by task-not-type
Look through your kitchen cabinets and consider the purpose of its use. Are your cookie sheets more used for roasting vegetables rather than baking? If this is the matter, then it should be placed with the frying pans and not with your cake pans. You’ll find everything you need to complete a task in one place if you organize your kitchen items according to their purpose.
Step 8 – Plan where you’ll place the most used items
A zoned cooking area is a more efficient one. You should place things where you will be able to reach them whenever you need them. By doing so, you should keep cooking supplies near the stove, the mugs should be placed above your coffee maker, and lastly, prep items must also be kept close to a large area of counter space.
Step 9 – Keep things arranged with organizers
Utensil holders can be used to store stirring spoons or spatulas near the stove. One great way to store cutleries is the use of drawer organizers. In addition to that, organizers also help you organize the stamps, pens, and other junk drawer items.
Step 10 – Maximize vertical space
Use the areas that are difficult to reach, such as the backs of deep cabinets and high shelves. Sometimes, decorative items such as pitchers or vases can be stored on the top of your cabinets.
Finally, we encourage our clients to be flexible and recognize that organizing a kitchen is an ongoing process. Your evolving needs are what make an organization work best. So, let’s get involved!
